Former Norfolk State track and field and cross country standout April Holmes, who has gone on to achieve fame as a United States Paralympian, motivational speaker and mentor, will be honored this January with the NCAA's Inspiration Award.The award is presented to a coach or administrator currently associated with intercollegiate athletics, or to a current or former varsity letter winner at an NCAA institution. It is reserved for people who, when confronted with a life-altering situation, used perseverance, dedication and determination to overcome their trauma. Holmes and the other honorees will receive their awards at the NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C., in January.
